Shean Bowers is Director of Music at St. Saviour’s Church, Oxton, Wirral. Previous to this he was Organ Scholar at Liverpool Cathedral, having been both a Chorister and the holder of its Neilson Organ Bursary. During his time as Neilson Bursar, he studied organ with Professor Ian Tracey.
In 2001 he gained a full scholarship to study with Daniel Moult at Chetham’s School of Music, and did so for the duration of his A-Level studies. Whilst at Chetham’s, Shean played as both soloist and as part of Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra. He was also a founder member of the Chetham’s Hairdressers, who sang for Prince Charles on his 50th birthday. Shean then gained a place on the year-in course at the Royal Academy of Music, London, studying the organ with Professor David Titterington and choir direction and conducting under Patrick Russill. Whilst there he played in master-classes taken by Nicolas Kynaston, Patrick Russill, Nigel Alcoat, William McVicker and Helmut Deutsch. During this time, he was Assistant Organist at All Saints Church, Poplar.
Shean has appeared as soloist with many other Orchestras, most notably with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of the Preludes and Fugues of J. S. Bach, an area of music for which Shean has a great love and passion, and a concert celebrating the works of Haydn and Mozart in which Shean played Mozart Epistle Sonatas and Haydn Concertos.
Shean has given recitals in many venues across the country including: Liverpool Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, St. George’s Hall, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Manchester Cathedral, Chester Cathedral, Newcastle Cathedral, Blackburn Cathedral, Christchurch Priory, Oundle School Chapel, Marylebone Parish Church, Victoria Hall, Hanley (100th organ prom), St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin and St. John’s College, Cambridge. Shean at present is studying the organ with Dr. Noel Rawsthorne.
